Baby steps in home decor

January 10, 2010

When I think of decorating my home, I become instantly overwhelmed and quickly push thoughts of having a house that says anything more than “This is a house! It is full of boxes!” from my mind.

But last weekend I went to a new location of Homesense , and as I wandered around that most glorious store this time (for I have been to other locations and left empty handed at least a half dozen times), I found things that inspired me — cushions and mirrors and shelves and picture frames and all I would have needed to go nuts is one hundred thousand dollars and living room couches that I could coordinate the cushions and frames with (one day, one day). The three-seater couch and chair I have in my living room now are thirdhand (at least) and the former is a dull grey colour while the latter is orange and brown striped, and looks sort of like a thick wale corduroy. No, I’m not kidding. Now you understand why I refrained from buying living room decor.

I did buy a jewelry hanger though, because I could not leave it behind. There’s an antique white version that I’m tempted to exchange this one with.

I bought these canvasses for my bedroom. They couldn’t be more apropos for me, could they?

The canvasses have small imperfections on them that annoy me (and I’ve already exchanged the one on the right once), but I think I’ll keep them. Once I’ve hung them up I’ll take a picture of my bedroom.
