This post inspired by India

November 9, 2009

I always thought the following song would be perfect for a couple who met online and/or are in a long distance relationship to have as “their” song because it expresses the feelings associated with such a relationship perfectly. I love the song’s simplicity, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s by one of my favourite artists, India.Arie. The song is called Beautiful Surprise:

It’s like yesterday
I didn’t even know your name
Now today
You’re always on my mind
I never could have predicted that I’d feel this way
You are a beautiful surprise
Intoxicated every time I hear your voice
You’ve got me on a natural high
It’s almost like I didn’t even have a choice
You are a beautiful surprise

Whatever it is that you came to teach me
I am here to learn it cause
I believe that we are written in the stars
I don’t know what the future holds
But I’m living in the moment
And I’m thankful for the man that you are, you are, you are
You are everything I ask for in my prayers
So I know my angels brought you to my life
Your energy is healing to my soul
You are a beautiful surprise
You are an inspiration to my life
You are the reason why I smile
You are a beautiful surprise

I’m glad this song came to my head today because I checked her website and India has a new cd out. I heard a few songs off the cd and I’m in love. This one’s going on my Christmas wishlist.

Speaking of Christmas wishlists, what’s on yours?

  1. I Love india also. So wistful and soulful. I also love Sade (as old school as that sounds) and am excited she is releasing a new album as well.

As for my Christmas wish list? I have no idea yet. I have to get mu hussle on though as we have to present this next week.

  2. I’ve liked what I’ve heard from her in the past. I think I’ll go download her new cd! I’ve been looking for new music! Thx!

  3. I like her too!! Saw her at the Blues Fest three or four years ago!! Awesome!

  4. She is simply awesome! Do you know I wouldn’t recognize most of Sade’s work if I heard it, Rhona? I need to work on that.

I saw her at Bluesfest too, Juli; she was awesome! And Shannon, you’re welcome! If you want to listen to three of her songs before downloading, check out her website. I like what I’ve heard so far.
