Wee to dos
August 14, 2009
So as not to overwhelm myself, I’ve come up with some small things that I need to get done that would improve my life for the better:
- fill my eyeglasses prescription (because I’ve had the prescription for five months, I’ve worn my current glasses for seven years and they are woefully crooked from being slept on.
- make real iced tea: brew the tea, sweeten it, chill it and slice fresh lemons and limes into it for a refreshing drink.
- make and frost cupcakes that look as delicious as they taste. Frosting cupcakes isn’t necessarily difficult; I imagine it just requires time and patience (and lots of “practice” cupcakes!).
- measure the windows in my house for curtains because I’m dreading the day a stranger will come to my door and tell me that my attempts to keep my fresh-from-the-shower body from his or her child’s impressionable young eyes have failed.
- make banana bread and peach crisp (any guesses as to which fruits are rotting away as I type?)

Easiest way in the world to frost cupcakes: spoon frosting into a plastic zip-lock bag. Snip a bit off the corner, enough so the opening is about 1/4 inch wide. Use that like a pastry bag and swirl the frosting onto each cupcake. Start at the outside edge and keep swirling till the whole cupcake is frosted. Pretty and easy, once you get the hang of it!
(Also, the nice thing about cupcakes is that generally even ugly ones taste delicious. ;-))
That's an excellent frosting tip!! Looks way better than my slap on with a knife method….though…in the end? Tastes the same. :)
you honestly crack me up. :)
dont stress about these things. just go ahead, block out some time and tackle them one by one.
trust me, with the cooking, you will really enjoy making and then eating your treats. yum, peach crisp! let us know how that turns out. although i have never had peach crisp, it does sound rather delicious.
Good list! Can you fill your prescription this weekend?

Thanks for the icing tip! I think I need more durable zip-lock bags because my attempts to try your technique last weekend resulted in icing oozing from the seams of my bag!
You're so right about the "draft" cupcakes still tasting delicious. I look forward to having many "test cuppies" :)

Speaking of the slap on with a knife method, check out this video I saw. There's too much icing on the cuppy cake for my liking but it's just a slightly modified version of your method ;)

You're too kind! I intend to be different from my usual me and just as you said set aside the time and get these things done. I'm notoriously bad at crossing things off to do lists but I feel confident about this one.
I'll try to record everything so you can drool from afar!

I think the most time consuming part of this task will be finding frames I adore that won't break the bank. But it's certainly very possible…I'll do my best!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
I've never properly frosted anything – but in my mind they look beautiful – and as said, taste fine (well, "fine" they are gluten free…and thus slightly odd).
It's Saturday afternoon, 3pm, here. I would love a slice of banana bread with a cup of tea. Or a cupcake.
Also, I replaced my own glasses just last month after 8 (EIGHT) years with my previous glasses. Who knew the world had changed so much? I didn't even see it happening!
If your fruit is rotting away – you can totally freeze it until you're ready to be baking goddess!
I'm here in to check in! :) Were you able to cross anything off your list?

YOu need to get yourself the Babycakes book . To be fair, I haven't made anything from it because I balk at idea of searching for the ingredients, but they certainly look delicious!

Oh, banana bread and iced tea does sound like a lovely Saturday afternoon snack.
I can't wait to see what the world looks like with my new lunettes…haven't ordered them yet though!
►Emma
Thanks for checking in! I made banana bread and the iced tea. Updates should be up for tomorrow!
