Just to brag about my friends

February 25, 2009

A little while ago, I asked for your support for Emma’s etsy shop, where she is selling items donated by fellow crafters to raise money for friends of hers who had fallen on hard times. I donated a few things and waited hopefully for them to sell. I was a bit disappointed that sales were sluggish at first but of course Emma is ever practical and said something to the effect that there are a lot of etsy shops out there and publicity would probably be the best way to get the information out (hence the mention of the shop on my blog). There are some really lovely things left so you should go see what’s still available!

Well, late last week, two of the items I listed sold and I was very excited. Emma sent me the mailing information for the buyer and it turned out to be my friend Ves! I was particularly touched by this because Ves actually did not think I would know she was the one who had purchased the items (she thought I had sent them to Emma and that Emma would be the one shipping them to her). When I emailed her to thank her, she said some supportive and encouraging things that really touched me.

Feeling a bit confident, I let friends on facebook know that they had to buy some things in Emma’s shop because it was for a good cause and another friend stepped up and purchased the remaining things I had contributed almost immediately! It was so appreciated and these two acts of kindess and support really set the tone for a lovely weekend.

So this week, I have two sales to get into the hands of the buyers, and I have decided to give running my own etsy shop a go, and see if there is need or interest in yet another paper goods seller. If not, I have some other ideas up my sleeve and hope you’ll enjoy following my journey.

  1. Yes!! Yay, I was hoping you would do this! =)

You know I’m first in line to buy some of those beautiful tacks. *camps out outside Jummy’s etsy store*

I really do appreciate your donations to the shop and your friends’ purchases, too! My friends who the shop is benefiting are kind people and I’m going to be excited to send them the money to help them out, even a little. We’ve raised $75!! I’m going to keep the shop going a little while longer and see if we reach $100, but it’s already been a great success. =)

I’m very excited to see what you come up with for your shop – and this time I can actually buy some of your cards!

  2. ok, so I’m not here to buy stuff but just to let you know that you and I are going to be verrrrrry verrrry crafty when I finally return to Ottawa with my scrapbooking collection!!! Ok, so it won’t be until 2010, but you will be excited nonetheless!!
