From one extreme to the other
November 26, 2008
After taking a seemingly indulgent three days away from the blog to recover from jetlag, I’m back.

I had a wonderful time in Nigeria and I can’t wait to share pictures and tell the accompanying stories. I will probably do most of that on my other blog, but I’m sure a few details will find their way here.
Since I’ve returned, I’ve been waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning, a habit I hope will soon disappear.
I’m not quite over the shock of being in snowy, below zero weather when short days ago I was standing in an airport sweating buckets and using my shirt to wipe literal rivers of sweat off my face. It’s amazing what the body can handle, truly. Another shock that I’m starting to panic about is that Christmas is less than a month away and I have no gift ideas yet. I haven’t made or sent a single card out and to be honest my body seems to be stuck in “relax, it’ll all get done so why panic?” mode, a leftover from Nigeria, no doubt, where the mother of the bride (my cousin) didn’t have the top of the outfit she was wearing to the wedding made until short hours before the ceremony, or where 30 minutes after an event is supposed to start, the guests of honour are still at home, getting dressed.
One thing that I feel must be mentioned is that I survived nearly a month without using a computer (and more importantly, internet). During the stopover on the way there, I was tempted to pay six euros for 30 minutes of internet time but I resisted, thinking it was too soon after I left Canada. Then in Nigeria, it just wasn’t convenient. I did tell one aunt that I would love to go to her office and use the internet, if possible, and she agreed but kept putting it off until we finally did go to her office. I was practically shaking with excitement as she turned on the computer and connected to the internet. Sadly, her boss came in and invited us to attend an event with him so she turned off the computer before it even had a chance to boot up and off we went to the party. On the way back, I felt too proud of being internet free to mar my record by logging on.
I’m glad to be back but also wishing the Atlantic ocean didn’t exist so my trip could be nearly halved. Either that or I’m thinking that Europe would be the perfect halfway point between the two countries I love.

Wahoo! Welcome back. I can't wait to hear all about your trip. We should do coffee soon. Or LUNCH, since I now work just around the corner from you. (We have so much to catch up on!)
Loves the hair! are they still in?!
Welcome back Jummy. Can't wait to see those pics. Your hair looks like fab! I bet you paid something like $10 to have that done.
I think being internet free is very liberating. I wish I could do it more often.
Welcome back!
Welcome Back! Love the hair…missed reading ur blogs!
Welcome back! Your hair looks great. :)
Why not keep that relaxed attitude? It sounds great! Enjoying time with people is much more important than cards and gifts anyway. :)
Aww…. your hair looks so beautiful. Did you get it done in the market? Wow! That long without internet access? I don't think I would be able to survive it.
Hair! There's hair?! I have dialup and I can't see the HAIR!!!
JOOMY, I MISSED YOU SO MUCH. (I should probably say this in an email, no?) I'm so glad you're back and we must (MUST) make dinner plans soon so you can show me pics and you can tell me all about it.
I hope you recover from jet lag (a phenomenon I have never known) soon and that your trip was fabulous!
WOW, the hair!! :) Hehe, that was my first impression when the page loaded, "WOW!". Just as amazing – the fact that you didn't even mention it in your entry. I guess the picture says it all for you though.
I am impressed that you haven't gone insane from lack of internet LOL.
Well, welcome home… glad you made it back :)
