Camera envy
July 22, 2008
I bought a nail buffer and ridge smoother months if not over a year ago, and I used it on a few nails and I’m very impressed at the shine that can be obtained with a simple looking instrument. I will admit that it was dooce’s picture of her and John’s manicures that inspired me. To look at the picture, John had his nails polished but one au courant commenter indicated that a manicure consists of buffing the nails to a shine, quite a high gloss shine at that.
And that is how I ended up buffing my nails and wishing I could show them to you, but alas, my camera insists on remaining completely busted.
And no, you’re not dreaming, I’ve been wanting and needing a new camera for months now, and may have mentioned the fact before. I’ve also mentioned the fact that I don’t like spending large amounts of money before, and when you put the words “DSLR camera” and “spending lots of money together”, well they sort of cleave to each other like long-lost lovers, which is rather annoying. I keep watching prices and hoping I’ll come across a fabulous deal.
On facebook my status a little while back indicated that I was stuck between a Canon and a Nikon. My last camera was a Canon, I bought my parents a Canon camera and my brother has a Canon camera, as does Amanda. But I’m a bit cranky about the busted sensor on my camera that wasn’t even two years old when it went kaput and still looks brand new (pardon? I should just get over it? I know.) and want to punish Canon by not buying a Canon (because we all know I’ll threaten the stability of the company by holding out, right?). But I’ve been stalking the specs and falling prices of the Digital Rebel xTi for over a year now (yes, even before the camera broke) so how can I suddenly turn to Nikon? And the new Canon xSi is making me want to splurge! I don’t have any friends around me who have Nikons and who could teach me how to become one with my camera. I know that’s what manuals and the internet are for but a little hands-on and in your face help is welcome too.
(And yes, I’m irked that if I had bought an extra year of the extended warranty I’d be now trading up to a DSLR because they no longer make my camera. Damn my disdain for extended warranties!)
So this entry’s purpose is to let you know that I miss having a camera but I still don’t have one because I’m hoping mine will rise from the dead. And I’m hoping I’ll win a DSLR. Or that a store will decide to sell a brand new, well-reviewed Canon or Nikon DSLR for, let’s say, $200, and throw in a couple of lenses too.
(What? You don’t think it’ll happen? Neither do I.)
And if you’re curious about what else is on my mind, go have a look.

I had no opinions about what type of DSLR I got, so Troy picked it out for me. It's a Nikon D40 and I'm quite happy with it. It took a little bit of getting used to but now I love it! And I'm pretty sure I only use it to about 3% of what it's capable of.
My two cents. :-)
Awww….so that's why you've been gushing about your nails?
Poor you about the camera, but if you just wait, you can get one on Black Friday…They have web Black Fridays as well.
i know this guy that apparantly does that manicure thing
his nails look lke the have nail polish on them, it looks really fruity. :O
i think with the amount of web publishing ya do
a nice camera would be in order. The old one is dead dead dead.
NIKON. If you're looking for good deals I say check out Ebay. A lot of people are scared of Ebay, but I bought a refurbished Nikon DSLR for about 200 dollars less than it was in stores at the time. When I got it in the mail it was in perfect condition, I wouldn't be able to tell it apart from a new one. It's about a year and a half later since I got it, and it still works perfectly.
