Lightning strikes twice

Remember last year? When I told you that our van, then nearly 12 years old, was stolen from the parking lot of the mall my mom works at? Remember how I said I live in a city that’s not known nationally as a crime capital, despite it being the capital of Canada?
Guess what?
It’s happened again: our van was stolen, again, from the same mall parking lot. It happened yesterday and this time there was at least half a tank of gas in the car so who knows where the thief or thieves have gotten to by now.
I cannot even believe it, and I must admit that my first reaction to my visibly distraught mother, who had been crying since she found out, was to laugh. She managed a half smile and told me that my dad had laughed too. I mean seriously, who goes after an aging car that’s begun to rust? It’s one of those things that’s so ridiculous and improbable (it’s been just over a year since the first theft) that you feel that you just have to laugh about it instead of getting angry and upset and wanting the thief dead.
I have some other questions too, like whether the car was targeted again as revenge for it being found last time, or if the thief or thieves went after it because of its model (and its apparent ease to steal). But really I just can’t believe that someone would take something that isn’t theirs, again, seemingly without remorse.
I don’t know if we’ll get it back this time: I didn’t think we would last time but I feel like if this is a revenge for the last theft, the thief or thieves may make sure that the car is damaged beyond salvaging. It’s sad because we all have some good memories of family trips and vacations in that car, and my mom is so attached to the vehicle.
Anyways, please think pray and/or think positive thoughts for us—we could use them.
Oh, and the bright side (because there is always one) is that whoever took the car wasn’t vindictive enough to lie in wait and hurt my adorable mommy so for that I am so grateful. Things are replaceable; people are not. That’s one of my dad’s philosophies and I think that’s why he hasn’t expressed dismay over the theft at all. He’d much rather have an alive wife than a car, no matter how luxurious.

No!! What kind is it? I've heard that Caravan's are one of the easiest vehicles (and most common) to be stolen. Your poor mom.
Oh I'm so sorry to hear about mommy's van. Like you said, I'm glad at least she's alright.
Oh no! I am sorry to hear about this repeat theft. That is too bad.
My car was stolen in good old Ottawa also while I lived there. I had just finished studying at UofO and it happened in my apartment right off Carlingview (I think that is the name of the street). In any case, I was shocked the crap since I thought Ottawa had a low crime rate. I guess they love stealing cars more than anything else. lol.
By the way, I find your blog fub and as another Canadian black girl, great to find your blog.
Oh no! I'm so sorry! But I like your family's philosophy. And I'm glad it wasn't worse. Still, I hope you get the car back!
This is so crazy! I'm sorry to hear this!
Wow! I'm really sorry to hear that. But Thank God you mom is okay and no one got hurt.
Thank you, everyone. We'll just have to wait and see if we get it back. My mom is doing a lot better now, just hopeful that the auto is returned.
those bandits! there should be a check mark, already stolen once please rotate to another choice.
hope something good comes out of it… if possible
