How do you define a long weekend?

June 30, 2008

You know what’s been annoying me besides not feeling 100% (I’m feeling about 65% though and able to totally function so that’s great)? It’s the way the radio and newspapers around here keep talking about this Canada Day Long Weekend we’re having.

Canada Day is tomorrow, July 1. Today, June 30, is a Monday. It is not a holiday. Unless you work for a generous company that has decided to close their offices because a national holiday falls on a Tuesday, you must work on Monday (unless you take the day off or quit at the injustice of having to work the day before a national holiday). All grocery stores and retail places are open, and i haven’t heard of a single service-oriented business that is closed today. I don’t even think any government offices are closed on today. So, it is NOT a long weekend! Somebody needs to explain this concept to them radio folk because it’s driving me nuts.

That being said though, it is a long weekend for me because I booked today off. And I’m considering taking Wednesday off too.

  2. lol, sorry girly, it is quite frustrating when you are at work twiddling your thumbs waiting for the higher uppers to declare monday a holiday or at least let people get off earlier.
