Real progress for a change
June 29, 2008
I wrote about 70% of a long, detailed entry about this weekend’s house hunting (yay, I actually went out!) and then decided that I like you all too much to bore you with the minutiae of it so you’re going to get the stuff you really care about (or the stuff you’d really care about if you didn’t care MORE about me making a damn decision already dammit!!!!!).
Important details:
- I went house hunting
- with my mom
- and my dad
- we looked at terrace homes and town homes (I’m not sure if townhomes should be spelled like that or like this—town homes—so I spell it both ways)
- my dad doesn’t like the idea of condo fees
- my mom loved the lower unit terrace home
- neither parent was crazy about the flight of stairs that must be climbed before reaching the living area of the upper level terrace home
- I went out for dinner and had a lovely time, see?
- when I got home, my mom, dad and I talked about our earlier house hunting adventures
- my dad agrees that a terrace home is the choice for me right now
- I officially feel like my hunt might almost be over.
It’s funny perhaps that having my parents’ input was an integral part of moving on decision-wise, but that’s the way it is for me. I want them to be a part of all major decisions in my life because I have a lot of respect for them as my parents and because they’ve been through what I’m going through and can probably come up with a thing or two that I didn’t consider. Although I like to involve them, I don’t always like what they have to say and when I feel strongly about a decision, their opinion, no matter how contrary, cannot sway me. Nevertheless I’m glad we’re pretty much on the same page with regard to home buying.
My next tasks are to ask some questions about the terrace homes I’m considering and create a realistic budget of what I need to buy (furniture-wise, mostly) and even start shopping around. It’s exciting that in a few weeks’ time I could be putting a deposit down on my own place! Wheeee!

What is a terrace home? I've never heard of that. I'm glad u r making moves to get a house. 2 thumbs up!
Hey jumoke! Exciting news that you may be getting your own place!! :)
Just want to warn you that when we bought our terrace home condo fees were 65$. Not even a yr later we got notice that all owners had to pay an extra 600 lump fee and our condo fees went up to 180 a month there after!
What area of town are you hunting in?
@sting – I sent you an email that hopefully sort of explains it
@Lee-Ann – this makes me want to cry! I must contact the builders and see what precautions are in place to prevent such drastic jumps in condo fees. Thanks for cluing me in to this though…didn't even think of it!
OMGOODNESS!!!! Congratulations girl, I'm so happy and proud of you. YOU DID IT!!!!!! ( I know you will be getting that house in no time)
So, maybe when I come to canada I'll have a place to stay??
