Crashing time
June 26, 2008
The latest sign that I’ve been a touch overextended and/or not managing my free time well is that I’ve been buying caffeinated beverages.
I don’t buy coffee (I will sometimes grab a (free) mug of the stuff if someone else at home or at work has made it—I do not know how to brew coffee) but the fact that I’ve had two moccacinos and two iced cappuccinos in the last two weeks, and constantly feel like I need a “jolt”, means I’m going to crash soon.
Crashing is fun, albeit unproductive: I’ll come home from work one evening, call hello to family members who happen to be in my vicinity, and head to bed, fully clothed. I’ll wake up five or six hours later and surprise family members who had no idea that I was at home. I’ll try to sit at the computer, a mere four feet away from my bed, and do something productive (a blog entry, or reply to emails), only to head to bed for a “cat-nap” and sleep until noon the next day.
For obvious reasons this is best done on a Friday night and I think I’ve just planned my weekend.
Update: I got sick. As yesterday progressed, I felt a bit off: some nausea, a sore throat and a stuffy nose. Hot tea didn’t help but I got through the day.
When I got home I went to bed, covered myself in blankets but still could not stop shivering. I had a fever. I took some tylenol and went to sleep. An hour a half later, I still felt like crap. At 4am, I woke up sweating, changed out of my work clothes, popped some more tylenol and went back to sleep. I woke up early and managed to arrive at work on time. I feel a bit better, if not 100%.

Jummy! Dr. Emma* prescribes a serious nap immediately! After the nap, I prescribe a snack that is both tasty and leaves you feeling good. Something like a hearty bread with jam? Or your favorite fruit with herb-y crackers?
Take good care of yourself. You are awesome!
*Dr. Emma is not a real doctor.
Yeah, what Emma said – then go for a run! :)
Ok, Jooms, this is serious business. You CAN NOT get sick. I hate the sickness, and I hate it when other people get the sickness.
I do this every time I feel a cold coming on, and I swear by it: You must drink gallons and gallons of orange juice. If my throat is sore, I mix OJ half and half with Diet Ginger Ale. It is bubbly and makes the throat feel better. You can throw in some Vodka and Peach Schnapps if you are feeling really desperate. And, if you throw in ENOUGH vodka and Peach Schnapps, you’ll forget that you are even sick. (OK, I’m kidding about the last part. And the second last part.)
I hope that you can fight it off, Joomy! Sleep lots, drink lots of OJ (I’m talking two jugs of the concentrated stuff a day, here) and hopefully you come out on the other side!
save some sickness for winter..
On the sleeping , if you were a cat that would be fine.
