Baby shower ideas?
May 8, 2008
I am in charge of the activities and games for an upcoming baby shower and I was wondering if you guys had any ideas of good games that a group of eight to ten women ranging in age from mid-20s to 60s could enjoy.
I thought we could have a guessing game for the date that the mom-to-be will deliver, and what the baby will weigh, but both individuals with the winning response would have to wait a couple of months before being declared the winner. Also, you know how bridal showers often have a competition to make a wedding gown using toilet paper? I thought perhaps we could have something similar to make a fancy diaper.
(See? I need help.)
I haven’t searched online yet for ideas and before I’m inundated with suggestions I thought I’d poll the crowd. Any ideas?
(more substantial entry coming later in the day)

Can't remember all the ones we play right off the top of my head (two of my sis are currently preggers so I'm doing some planning of my own)
The ones I remember is the one where you tell the mother to go into another room and the ladies guess what she's wearing.
One where everyone uses a lenght of toilet paper to guess the belly width of the mother
Bingo: Items in the ladies purse
I'll come back when I remember some more.
Is this a Naija shower?
Here are the ones that were popular at my sister's shower, which I hosted in March.
1) Guess the baby poop: Although it sounds gross, it was fun. You melt different kinds of chocolate candy (reese's cups, hershey bars, crunch, etc.) in the microwave and then put each one in a different diapers. Then the women have to pass the diapers around and smell them to guess the chocolate. Most guesses right wins.
2) Take a bunch of dolls or stuffed animals and have everyone race to see who can diaper theirs first.
3) Not really a game, but an activity, was decorate the onesie. I got inexpensive plain white onesies and some fabric paint. All the guests decorate one for the baby. Everyone had a lot of fun and it has been neat to see my nephew wearing all the outfits the last few days. For an added touch I got iron on "made by" labels so people could put their names on their creation.
Have fun!!!
At my baby shower my friend who was organizing it asked everyone to bring in a baby picture of themselves. She put the pictures up and everyone had to write down who they thought was in each picture. Whoever had the most right answers won.
While I am NOT a game person at ALL (yah, party pooper, deal with it, hehe) the one game that I've played (and enjoyed *gasp*) was you get stiff cardboard or those cheap artist palettes (from Dollarama) and give one to everyone with a marker. They have to put the palette on their head and draw a baby. Then sign the back. The mother to be picks her fave (or two or three) and they get a prize. It's super funny to see what people come up with (and none look like a baby!). Everyone loved this game at my shower and at one I attended (it's where my mom got the idea to play it).
Happy planning!
I have a baby shower to go to tomorrow! Never been to one before, so have no idea what to expect. Quite interesting reading these game/activity suggestions. Makes me wonder what they'll come up with at my friend's one.
I have heard of variations of Pin the Tail on the Donkey – like pinning the dummy/pacifier on the baby, or pinning the baby in the tummy (or on the mummy, whatever it is…).
Well, now that I've had a baby shower experience… I'll tell you the few games we played LOL. Wasn't many.
Upon arriving, we got given a ball of string, like someone said above with the toilet paper, we had to guess how long the string was to go around her belly. Had to look after your string til later in the night, when we compared them all to see who was the closest (and that person got a prize).
At the beginning we got 5 necklaces (just ribbon with picture of baby bottle hanging on it). This was an ongoing game, where there were two banned words, "baby" and my friend's name. If you heard someone say those words you got to take one of their necklaces. Person with the most at end of night got a prize.
There was a taste test – 4 flavours of babyfood, basically had to guess what each flavour was. (I now see why babies spit it out – it was all so gross!).
Then there was the Nursery Rhyme quiz – had nursery rhymes with missing words, basically just filled it in. Was harder than I thought! Surprised how many nursery rhymes I'd forgotten. Person who got the most correct, got 2 necklaces to add to their collection.
I think that was it really… hope that helps.
