Feeling pretty darn okay
March 31, 2008
Somebody’s got her groove back: I rulked twice this weekend! It hurt, I wheezed like a woman on her deathbed but I kept at it and I did it. I actually think there is a strong chance that this Couch to 5K program actually works! So far I’ve been going out in the evenings but tomorrow I plan to try waking up early and getting it in before work because then it’s out of the way and also nothing feels better after a run than a nice shower, and if that doesn’t wake me up before work then nothing will. On the very likely chance that I sleep in, I will be going after work so all is not lost.
The shin splints are back, but they aren’t as bad and I haven’t been stretching before I start (just warming up with a brisk walk like the Couch to 5K program recommends), so that’s probably why I still get them.
Fund raising is going slowly. I received a new donation last week (Thanks Rich!). I hope to double what I currently have by the end of this week. I’m going to call some family friends this week and ask my coworkers to help out too. I really hope I reach my goal of $500 raised and it would be even cooler if I surpassed the goal! I’m going to be aggressive this week, grrr! If you want to help out, here’s the link, right here.

I’ve been blogging a lot on my Nigerian blog. I’m really enjoying writing entries for it. It’s fun to talk about the immigrant experience, or about Nigerian parents, men, women, etc., and have people who’ve gone through something similar agree or tell me that I’m totally wrong and I have no idea what I’m talking about. The Nigerian male readers aren’t very impressed with my opinion of some of them, and are very defensive of how marvelous they are. I’m thinking of using the blog as an experiment in blog monetization and seeing how it goes, but that would involve the purchase of a domain name and then putting up a kickass blog design, something that isn’t exactly my forte. I already know who I’ll get to draw my banner image (and I even have an idea of the banner image I want): Secret Agent Josephine, of course!

We’re also in the midst of some home renovations. Our poor house is suddenly falling apart, that and the fact that some things are just at the point where they should be replaced: windows, fences, floors, doors, carpets in particular. And of course all of these things cost an arm and a leg (I tried to give them some of my belly flab but there was no interest). We’ve freshened up one bathroom and we’re doing the floors in a couple of places and painting the mudroom.
So, life is actually pretty good with me. I feel really close to my family right now and I’m filled with this general sense of happiness about life. Perhaps it’s just some residual endorphins swimming around in my blood.

monetization?
I'm happy that you are happy about life.
And I am very proud of you for rulking…also you just added a new word to my vocabulary…rulking…ha!
So, will you ever link your Nigerian blog to this one? I think we're still curious about it!
I'm glad things are going so well! And good luck keeping up with the C25K!
