Year 2007 in review
January 1, 2008
Good day and Happy New Year! I’m mildly insane, that is why it’s nearly 6am on January 1 and I’m still awake. I had a lovely New Year’s Day, thank you for asking and I think if there was a way for me to spend New Years with everyone who would like to spend the night with me (my family and two groups of friends), I would be lucky indeed. If they could all move to different provinces so they’re an hour or two apart, and if I had a private jet…well you can see how much simpler my life would be.
Completing this survey is my one consistent blog tradition (See my answers for 2004, 2005 and 2006) so it must continue.
01. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
Sign up to run a 5K.
02. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
If my resolution involved losing weight or not procrastinating then I failed miserably (as usual).
03. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope, but someone close to me is pregnant!
04. Did anyone close to you die?
My cousin did.
05. What countries did you visit?
The USA (oh so exciting).
06. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A boyfriend.
07. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
For some reason the actual dates don’t stick in my head but when my cousin died and August 19 when we discovered that our visiting relatives are not very nice people (prior to that, I only had suspicions).
08. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Is it horrendous to say I had no big achievements this year? Gosh this is the most boring rendition of this survey ever! I apologize.
09. What was your biggest failure?
Not losing weight, not filing 2006′s taxes yet, not making the gym a regular part of my life.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing serious, thank God.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A flat iron (I think). I haven’t received it yet but I’m sure it’ll be awesome when it arrives!
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My parents, who really surprised me with how they handled our visiting relatives who stayed with us for four months. Seriously, I learned more about them this year than ever before.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My relatives of course (they are getting far too much attention in this here survey). I wasn’t depressed but I was totally appalled. I was also disappointed by the behaviour of someone I considered a close friend earlier in the year.
14.Where did most of your money go?
Food (buying lunch every darn day at work), clothing, Christmas gifts.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Blogging and what I think would be a neat topic to blog about.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
Kanye West’s Stronger and You Make Me Better.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
- happier or sadder?
Sadder, but with the knowledge that I have much to be happy and thankful for.
thinner or fatter?
Fatter.
richer or poorer?
Poorer because I started RSPs this year and put all my savings into it.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Exercising and money saving.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Eating, getting depressed over my single state, spending too much time thinking about people who decided they didn’t want me in their lives (as long as I gave them a chance to explain if I did something to cause what feels like a rift and they don’t/haven’t decided to respond, I need to let it go).
20. How did you spend Christmas?
With my immediate family as always. It was nice and went pretty much as predicted.
21. Did you fall in love in 2007?
No, alas.
22. What was your favourite TV program?
I still don’t have one.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t believe in hating but there are two people that I like a lot less this year than last (granted I didn’t even know one of them last year).
24. What was the best book you read?
None of the books I read this past year were memorable. I guess this is why people keep track of them. I read a lot of magazines last year. I’m currently reading The IT Girl’s Guide to Blogging With Moxie.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
No one really.
26. What did you want and get?
Everything on my Christmas list.
27. What did you want and not get?
A laptop and a digital SLR camera, both because they are wants, not needs. I want a car, and last year I wanted it a lot more because it seemed I wouldn’t be able to get the family car whenever I wanted it but since I do, that is a less pressing want.
28. What was your favourite film of this year?
Enchanted.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 28. We went out to dinner then to a club that nobody except me wanted to go to. This year will have to be something different or my friends will surely ditch me.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If I was 100lbs lighter.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
“Screw looking like I put any work into this.” I succeeded, unfortunately. Every single day.
32. What kept you sane?
Reflecting on the good things in my life, saying little prayers when I felt like I had the worst life out there, basically anything that made me get some perspective.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I find fancying celebs such a waste of time.
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Does that fact that my facebook profile have “Apathetic” beside “Political Views” tell you anything?
35. Who did you miss?
Nobody.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
I guess it would have to be my new full time coworker (although I don’t know her well by any means). She’s the one whose bag I got someone to buy for me because I loved it.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.
I must stop focusing on what everyone else is doing brilliantly and start focusing on what I can do brilliantly. When it comes to determining and measuring success, I have to set my own guidelines and goals.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
But it’s time for me to go home
It’s getting late, dark outside
I need to be with myself and Center, Clarity
Peace, Serenity
from Big Girls Don’t Cry, by Fergie. The rest of the song doesn’t relate to me but this part certainly does, if I may take it out of context!

Happy Happy New Year! I hope 2008 treats you well!
