Burning a hole in my bank account

November 26, 2007

A couple of months ago, I did some work on the side and I got paid for it. I was so astonished that I was actually paid (yes, even though the amount was agreed on beforehand and everything) that I kept the cheque as a souvenir and didn’t cash it.

Last week the writer of the cheque asked if I would be kind enough to cash it, so I deposited it in my bank account. I had already decided not to keep half of it but what should I do with the other half? I can’t guarantee that I’ll go with the suggestion that has the most votes, but I’m curious to know what you think would be the best use of my hard earned dough:

  • Put it in my savings account to save towards the house and car I want
  • Go to a fancy hair salon that specializes in African hair and let them work their magic (I have seen their work on one person and it did look good)
  • Buy the Sedu flat iron (why oh why must it be $125.95 + shipping + duty??)

Other options that I’d put on here but wouldn’t work for reasons I will disclose:

  • Go on a shopping spree (None of the stores have anything I want, not for lack of looking)
  • Buy a laptop (Sadly, it wasn’t quite that much money, and oh yeah: I don’t need a laptop!!)
  • Get a new pair of glasses (I went to get them adjusted and now they fit wonderfully and I don’t hate them so much. Add to that the fact that I will likely be getting a new prescription in March and I can’t justify the expense at this time)

So, what should I do? Did you think of an even better idea I should consider?

  1. I figure that you're already probably putting half into your Savings for house/car. So with the other half, I think you should use it to get in on an indoor volleyball team, or something recreational/social of some sort.

  2. Give it to me :D

  3. Get the irons, you've been wanting them for ages, and it'll be something you get good use out of. (Do you get GHDs over there? They're the most popular and highly rated around here and the UK)

  4. I vote half in savings and half on a new hairdo at the fancy hair salon.

  5. moondog recommends you go long with december chilidogs. great return on investment
