Too much work

September 17, 2007

Instead of spending weekends like most people do, relaxing and taking a break from a busy week, I decided to follow my greed and take on some work. In addition to working at the part time job, I took on a writing job for someone I work with, thinking that all my experience would make the job and breeze, and I wouldn’t have to do too much more work for the extra pay that was promised.

Wrong!

The importance of the document I was preparing had me nervously submitting drafts, anxiously waiting to hear comments and hoping they wouldn’t crush my hopes and make me lose faith in my ability to write and edit. My plans to go out for dinner last night were abandoned: two late nights followed by waking up in the wee hours of the morning, unable to sleep and compelled to work on the paper (this was much too reminiscent of university!) made that a no-go.

The process is nearing an end, and I’d give it serious thought before doing it again. That’s not what weekends are meant for.
