Birthday part II: the friends edition

June 23, 2007

I plan to be the sort of person who always takes the anniversary of her birth as cause to celebrate.  As I’ve said before, turning another year older is truly cause for celebration, especially when you live in a world where innocent people are killed by drunk drivers, or stabbed in clubs, or dying of disease.  How can you not be happy or feel blessed that one of the main things that plagues you is whether or not you’ll fall in love before your ovaries shrivel up?

So, in keeping with that theme, I organized a wee party yesterday.  The plan was simple and extremely predictable:  dinner then dancing.  I will have to move soon as I’m running out of different locales in this city to have dinner and the number of clubs that cater to people who are 25 years and over are few and far between (namely: 1).

We started off the evening at the Blue Cactus.  I was fashionably late because I had to go shopping for a shirt to wear and then I took forever to select a pair of pants to accompany the shirt.  And I also tried to make an illegal left turn and a policewoman stopped me to inform me that I couldn’t, right as I saw the “Do not even try to turn left here, no matter how handy it would be” sign.  This meant I had to go straight and ended up heading away from downtown on a scenic route that took me along the canal but unfortunately there were no nearby options for making a U turn.

I made it back though, and enjoyed a delicious dinner with some my friends.  They gave me some great cards, awesome gifts and were cheery and chatty and fun.  A smaller subset of us went out dancing and we left before 1am since we are getting older.

What a weird look on my face and check out how my sister is blatantly stealing MY limelight.

And on the topic of gifts, guess what I got?

A huuuge mug, candle, gift card for Second Cup, gift certificate for Michaels, gift card for Black’s and The Hopeless Romantic’s Handbook, all of which I can’t wait to use (and read)!

If you promise to come camping with me one day I will cook up all sorts of campalicious delicacies on it, just for you!
