Another year, another vow
June 21, 2007
I turned 28 on Monday and boy was I glad to live to see another year. I’m not sure if it’s optimism or what but for the last while I haven’t been taking being alive for granted one bit. It’s a great way to put things in perspective: when compared to the alternative of being dead, being alive and 30 (40…50…75…) doesn’t sound so horrible I find.
I had a lovely family birthday thing on Monday evening: my mom cooked, we ate outside and dessert was DQ ice cream cake. Wewe took a slew of pics, my dad gave a speech/talk about dreams and its pursuit (not that he needed this event to give this talk) and then we moved the party inside when the mosquitoes got a bit too feisty.

Happy Birthday to me!

Me with the visiting cousins

Them who birthed me
I’m floored by the fact that no matter how old (or big) I get, my parents still see that 9lb 4oz baby they swore to protect with their lives. It’s great to see that love and pride in their eyes even today.
I have a video of my mom being a ham but its posting is delayed due to technical difficulties. She is just too cute!
For my past two birthdays I’ve been declaring that it will be my year. So far this has not been the case. Perhaps my 28th year will be the year.

wow! u got some loving going on!
happy bday again!!!!! woohoo!
Happy (belated) birthday, Jummy! Lots of years will be your year; I'm sure 28 will be the first.
Happy, Happy Day to YOU, dear Jooms! I hope that this year is everything you want AND MORE because you are such a wonderful friend and such a genuinely good person.
Perhaps it will also be the year that I take you out and get you sloshed. Blottoed. Polluted. Tanked. Shit faced. Hammed. Wrecked. Slaughtered. Tequila'd. Done in. We can make you become all those things AT ONCE and then once I've washed the vomit out of my hair and you say "I told you I shouldn't drink" I can say, Dude, you are totally right.
Or better, we can arrange a quiet evening (Quiet: Hah.) of sitting on the back porch at The Ranch, gossipping and drinking slushy fruity drinks by the pool to celebrate the start of our best years ever!
mmmm. I love dairy queen cake.
28 was a good year for me. Hope it is for you too!
i forgot to mention that picture of the cake, makes me wanna maul it
with a bear claw! ! zoiks!
Ohh, looks like you had a good time. It's so nice that your family makes a bit of a fuss. We only do anything special on major milestones… We don't even bother with birthday cake any other time either. I see what I'm missing out on now… :S
I hope this IS your year!
Happy belated birthday! I'd bet you had a super-duper day! Wishing you many more ahead.
Lots of love
