Hairy tale
April 18, 2007
It has been alleged that narcissim has been reigning chez Jummy, and sadly I can’t deny it. I loved the hairstyle I had for the gala, and the hairdresser who made it happen: all I have to tell that particular hairdresser is what I want (up, down, half up) and whether or not I want the style to be formal, casual, or sophisticated and she never disappoints. However, when it comes to burning my scalp, she seems to be just as good as my other hairdresser and ensuring that awful fate.
I love curly hair, not my usual frizzed out mess, but lovely ringlets, so I often ask for a curly style. In the last entry you can see what it looked like. Today, it looks like this and I think it’s still pretty:
If I could wake up with tousled curls like this regularly, I would be happy. However, to get this style, I’d have to saturate my hair in setting lotion, put my hair in rollers every 3-4 days and sit under a hair dryer for an hour. Those hair dryers that they have at hair salons have the ability to dry your hair to a crisp-literally-due to the setting lotion’s consistency, I believe. Once you have those crisp curls, you then use a sizzling hot curling iron to define the ringlets. Once that’s done, you apply a medium hold spray, comb out slightly, if you’re inclined, and then you’re ready to go.
Some problems with this plan are a) I can’t roll my own hair (well). My sister and I have considered doing it for each other but something (laziness, plain old maliciousness) has stopped us from actually trying it. If I’m in the mood to put her hair in rollers you can bet she has a hockey game that she can’t miss and when she’s ready, I’m grumpy/working/out so it never works. Reason b) is although we have two portable hair dryers, none seem capable of drying our hair to that desired crisp.
The style is pretty, but can you see me fitting this into my morning 20 minutes from bed to bus routine? I’d have to quit my part time job just to fit it in to my schedule, and when I look at how my hair looks the other 97% of the time, I think the extra time needed might be worth it.

Oooh, I like it! Although I see your dilemma with the time it would take to replicate on a regular basis! Me, I chopped my hair off and haven't looked back! I shower, my hair air drys in about half an hour (that was a first…it used to take the entire day to dry completely!) then I add some goop and I'm good to go! I don't go for the high maintenance stuff as much as I like it. I'm all for wash and go.
Oh, Joomy, how I lust after this tousled look myself! My own hair is now dreadfully thin and completely lifeless. It has always been lifeless, though. Sigh.
I could put in an extra forty minutes per day to curl, spray, and set my own hair.
But my LORD, who really wants to devote that much extra time to hair when you could be SLEEPING?
Seriously, I feel your pain. My hair sucks with no effort and is hot with an hour of effort. I just don't have what it takes to dvote an hour per day to my hair.
I love it! And I can NOT do morning hairdos that take longer than 10 min.
the security cameras at work show an unpleasantry on me, a fricken bald spot on the back of my head!
