What is a blogger without a computer? We do not want to find out!
March 28, 2007
All the bad kids say that rules are made to be broken so if all goes as planned there will be two WG words in this entry. I meant to write an entry last night but my computer is very ill and its symptoms so terrified me that I shut it off after only 5 minutes by its side.
I have kept pretty quiet about my computer’s malady, which is unusual for me, She-who-loves-computers-far-more-than-television-or-movies, but I didn’t want to go into an all out panic. You see, it all started with two bouts of my computer shutting off without warning: no “Jummy, you’ve had me on for five hours and I want a break”, nothing! Attempts to turn it on seconds later do not work and when it boots back up it seems ok but I did once see a flash of an error message pertaining to the fan so I should probably get the fan looked at.
My solution in the meantime had been to use it only 4 hours, 55 minutes a night instead of the usual 5, and that seemed to be working alright.
But the last couple of days, the screen has been flashing blue: not the dreaded blue screen of death, thankfully, but all of a sudden the screen will get a blue tinge that intensifies, sort of a teasing, ludic, “now you see me, now you don’t, won’t your siblings think you’re crazy if you call them in to see me and they don’t!” way. It’s been frustrating to say the least. It’s only a year and a half old so despite my wishes for a laptop, that solution is definitely not justified yet.

I mentioned my budding interest in facebook a few days back, and I guess I was too loud in my praise and adoration because that site is now blocked from being viewed at work. I know: I too am shocked that they would rather I work work instead of network (with my peers)! At the risk of having them perceive my position as a sinecure, I will not protest this ban of facebook and similar websites, and instead rejoice in the fact that my dear domain remained unscathed by this blocking. I did have a quick meeting with my fellow facebook users and they share my opinion of “We’ll let them think it doesn’t affect us! In fact, we’ll do them one better and never ever mention it!” As long as I have my home computer to run to to assuage this need for facebook, I think I’ll be ok…which brings us back to square one: my dear computer must be fixed, and posthaste!
**If you are guessing today’s WG word, please be sure to include two guesses: one for yesterday’s wod and one for today’s word (order doesn’t matter). Good luck!

Bah – computer problems are always over my head. JG's computer started getting frequent visits from some Russian-language-looking site, which turned out to be a virus in his whole school. Yuck.
WG=assuage, ludic
Hmmm. so far they haven't blocked anything at my workplace – but I'm sure at my new job there will be very little I can access…
Hope you get your computer fixed soon.
Wordy gurdy gurdy words: ludic, sinecure
wg=sinecure,assuage
get that fan checked!
WG: ludic and sinecure
Those computer fans can suck up a lot of crap…. we once opened up our old computer to get something fixed, and cleaned etc – and along with LOADS of dust, found a little piece of noodle! LOL shameful because we got someone else, dad's mate, to do this!
Anyway.. good luck with the computer.
