Great news:  they found our van!  We recevied a call at 2 in the morning [I guess they figured nothing would make our day more] yesterday, informing us that our van had been found.  After expressing her gratitude to the policeman, my mother mentioned that she hoped the van wasn’t in too bad a shape.

The policeman said she’d see it later in the day.

I figured that it would  hardly be in a pristine condition, and asked my mom to go with my father to retrieve it or have it towed to where some work could be done on it but she didn’t and as I expected, she was emotional when she saw the state the van was in.  I still don’t know the extent of the damage done to the van but it was taken to the mechanic and we’ll know more soon.

Thanks for all the good wishes in that direction!

Update: work should begin on fixing the van today (Monday), followed by getting it cleaned.  My mom was a bit upset and she didn’t really notice any details such as how much of her things were still in the van, whether or not our garage door opener was still in the van, and other details like that.
