Love, sweet love

February 14, 2007

Happy Valentine’s Day.  I have a date tonight, with Amanda.  We’re going to eat, drink and be merry and if time permits we will exchange sidelong and coquettish glances, then look away quickly because that is how we used to  do it in grade school.  And she has promised to teach me her foolproof “how to mesmerize a man with your eyes” trick tonight.  I’m excited!

On this holiday of all things twee and overly saccharine, I’d like to share with you ten things that I will never turn down (caveat:  with the right guy):

  • good morning kisses (morning breath and all)
  • breakfast (in bed or at the table, it matters not)
  • flowers at work
  • cooking! dinner! by himself!
  • mood music and slowdancing
  • unconscious touches
  • a love email or letter
  • a frivolous gift
  • a night out or a weekend away
  • a declaration of love

I was talking to the guy I met online that I’m not attracted to last night and I wish I had feelings for him because he reminds me of my dad in the way he approaches love or finding a wife [he's at that stage in his life].  Ewww, you might say.  Why would you want to want a guy who is like your dad?  Because even though my dad is fairly serious, he can be romantic and doesn’t need a holiday for it, he’s a good person and the love he feels for my mom is palpable.  And who doesn’t want all of that?

  1. Have you met the guy you met online? How do you know you're not attracted? It's good that you're still in touch with him even though you don't have feelings right now because you never know what will happen. Even if he doesn't seem to be your 'type', if he continues to display qualities that you admire, your feelings might change!

My guess is palpable or twee…you use a lot of not-every-day words all the time, so it can be hard to guess!

  2. Morning kisses are the best! If neither of you is concerned, quite frankly I don't think you notice. And unconscious touches….. Like when someone puts their hand on your back not because they should or even because they want to, but because on your back is where their hand belongs!

    Oh, love, Sweet love!!!

My dad has qualities that I admire too, and I would want someone more like him, but also more willing to cook me dinner and do my laundry. He would definitely already buy me my horse, truck and trailer, though, so we're good on that front!

  3. Although my dad died when I was very little, I know that my own husband is very much like him. And I love that!

Slow dancing is also good without music, just randomly.

  4. coquettish ::: so wurdy gurdy, that i dont even know what it means!!

ok whos the dope that your not attracted to? just kidding but that does seem like such a negative label! what ever happened to that guy

ya met at mcdonalds to talk? did ya ever do a second date?

    just curious……

  5. love isn't all romance and flowers, although the card and gift industry would like us to think it is so. That said, the unconscious touches, the morning kisses, the declarations of love – they are wonderful.

    wordygurdy gurdy word: coquettish. :)

  6. I totally like all those things too, ah romance is in the air, who knows when and where sparks might hit.

    wordygurdy: coquettish
