Now accepting ads of all kinds and in both official languages
December 13, 2006
For well over two years now, I have wondered how close my cell phone number is to that of a local french newspaper as I’m always receiving phone calls on Wednesdays and Thursdays concerning an ad that someone would like to put in this esteemed paper.
Back when I didn’t get many phone calls, and I didn’t have call display, I would pick up the phone, only to stammer through some awkward conversation, en francais, where I would have to convince some people that I am not, in fact, Le Droit. Most of the time they’d believe me but every now and then the person would call me back, hear me again, and try to get me to put their ad in the paper. If I wasn’t so slow on the uptake, I could have made myself a tidy profit by now: “Yes, that’s right, please mail your subscription fee to…” ;)
I decided to look up this paper and see how close our phone numbers are in fact. Mine is 613-###-#### and theirs is 613-(my first number + 3)##-####. Just one number off. And now that I have call display, I just have to see the Québec area code and know that, unless the man of my dreams lives one province over, the phone call is likely not for me.
