Happy one year to me

November 14, 2006

Today marks the one year anniversary of my employment at this fine establishment.  It’s funny: today (or yesterday) would have been my last day here if things had worked out as they were supposed to.  You see, I was only hired on a one year contract to replace a maternity leave.

But then I came in and dazzled them, so much that they decided to tell the woman who was off for a year that if she decided to come back, there wouldn’t be a job waiting for her.  I have to admit to feeling some guilt over that, but it’s not my fault that I was a harder worker and more dedicated [read: I have no life].

That’s not exactly how it  happened.  Five months into my contract, I was asked to apply for a newly created position and they saw my potential and hired me!  It’s a challenge and the job is still evolving but I’m enjoying it and they seem to be pleased so far so I hope that I will continue here for some time.

I’m ever so grateful for gainful employment!
