Internet dating

August 13, 2006

It has happened.

I asked a friend who I hadn’t talked to in a while how she met her boyfriend.

Granted, I asked her via email as she lives five hours away and we don’t really talk on the phone.

Her answer was “lavalife“.

Simple.

She didn’t feel the need to say that she met him through friends, or make up some quarter truth about how their eyes locked while at a party; she just told me that and then added some context to ensure that I knew that their relationship had moved beyond the internet [their families and friends have met, they've gone on trips together, etc.]

How refreshing!

  1. Jimbo and I met on match.com! I tell everyone! I yell it from rooftops! ;)

  2. I almost wish I had met my husband on the internet… it would somehow make sense for us.

As it is, we did not MEET on the internet, but we did somehow come together on the internet, if that makes sense. We probably would never have talked to each other if it weren't for the internet. So I guess that's close enough.

  3. Hey, you already know my position: online relationships work! A really sweet French teacher at my high school met her husband on lavalife when I was in grade ten. At the time she was 39 and had just about given up hope on every being married; a very devout Christian, she did *not* do the bar scene by any stretch. Someone bought her a guest pass/membership for her birthday and eh, voila! They were married during the summer afterwards. Since then she has even had the chance to beat her biological clock and have the three babies she's always dreamed of. She's proud as can be.

  4. It happens rarely, but isn't it fun when it becomes real?! :)

Hope you enjoyed your weekend. ta ta

  5. Go for it. I know a number of people who have done it.

You can be as selective as you want. In the privacy of your own. Take as much time as you’d like. Communicate through a medium (?) you’re comfortable with. Internet dating is not just for freaks. Everyone’s doing it (well, I’m not). You want to be like everyone else right? ;) ;) But in all seriousness, its totally normal.

  6. You know how I now feel about internet dating…
